Donation Guidelines

We accept donations Tuesday-Sunday, beginning at 10am (11am on Sundays). We do not accept donations on Monday. Please view our donation guidelines below.

All proceeds from the sale of your donations help William Temple House support people in our community through mental health counseling and emergency assistance programs. Please toggle the categories to the right for specific guidelines around generally accepted items. All donated items need to be in good, usable condition or we may not accept them.

We accept donations between 10am-5:30pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, and between 11am-5:30pm on Sundays. We do not accept donations on Mondays.

Please do not leave donations on site outside of business hours. We begin taking donations when the store opens and continue through the day until we have reached capacity. 

Are you planning on bringing a large donation? Please call us at 503-222-3328 to confirm we can accept your items that day. 

Donation Guidelines

All donations are subject to staff approval and donation guidelines may change.

Clothing

Generally Accepted

  • Adult-sized men’s and women’s clothing that is clean and in good condition
  • Accessories
  • Jewelry
  • Shoes

Not Accepted

  • Any items with holes, tears, or stains
  • Children’s items
Electronics

Generally Accepted

  • Most small-sized household appliances and devices in working condition and clean 
  • Console televisions and stereos
  • Electronic accessories e.g. extension cables, wires, chargers, etc

Not Accepted

  • Appliances not in working condition
  • Hard-wired lighting or electrical fixtures
  • Large appliances (e.g., washers or refrigerators)
Furniture

Generally Accepted

  • Antiques
  • Chairs
  • Dining sets
  • Futons with frames
  • Shelves
  • Sofas, including sofa beds
  • Tables
  • Desks (4 feet and under)

Not Accepted

  • Any items in need of repair or reupholstering
  • Bed frames or headboards
  • Children’s furniture
  • Glass top dining tables
  • Home improvement items (medicine cabinets, faucets, toilets, sinks)
  • Mattresses or air mattresses
  • Window blinds or shades, curtain rods
Household Goods

Generally Accepted

  • Artwork
  • Area rugs (max size 8ft x 10ft)
  • Clean cookware and unchipped dining sets
  • Linens
  • Housewares

Not Accepted

  • Automotive parts
  • Children’s toys and bikes
  • Exercise / sporting equipment (rowing machines, treadmills, skis, golf clubs)
  • Household chemicals, paint, insecticides
  • Medical equipment / supplies (walkers, toilet seats, shower parts, rehab boots)
  • Outdoor items (BBQs, lawnmowers, yard tools)

Furniture Donation Pick-up Service

We offer a furniture donation pick-up service to households in the Portland metro area. To schedule a donation pick-up, please call 503-715-0336.

A $50 pick-up fee helps offset our fuel and truck maintenance costs so that more of your donation will support the low-cost counseling and food assistance services William Temple House offers. A discounted $25 pick-up fee is available for no-contact pick-ups from your curb, driveway, or garage that do not involve our staff entering your home. Thank you for supporting our community!

Your donation of goods in used or better condition is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Tax receipts are available at the time of donation. In compliance with IRS  guidelines, William Temple House is unable to establish or affirm the value of in-kind contributions.
