Donations of food, supplies always needed

With unemployment hovering above 9 percent and with many people who are working under employed, the need for food, hygiene items and other basic necessities is high.

Gifts of cash to purchase items most in need are always welcome but donations of nonperishable food, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other basic necessities are helpful, too.

The following items are always in need:

Food

  • Canned meats including tuna and chicken
  • Canned soup, stew and chili
  • Canned vegetables and fruit
  • Peanut butter and other nonperishable proteins
  • Potatoes – fresh and instant
  • Apples and oranges – please call in advance to make sure that we have refrigeration available to keep these items fresh

*Please check expiration dates and limit donations to food items which have not expired.

Hygiene items

  • Bar and liquid soap
  • Shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Disposable razors
  • Shaving cream

New children’s clothing for girls and boys ages 5 to 18

Please note that our Children’s Clothing Closet accepts only new clothing for distribution. An important part of our program is giving the schoolchildren we serve good fitting new clothing since most children who are referred to the Children's Clothing Closet have only hand-me-downs. William Temple House also does not have the resources to clean, mend and iron used children’s clothing.

All new items donated to the Children’s Clothing Closet should be age appropriate and easily laundered. If you have any questions, please call prior to donating.

  • Shirts and blouses
  • Pants and skirts
  • Underwear and socks
  • ”Hoodie” sweatshirts
  • Warm jackets
  • Hats, scarves, mittens and gloves

We are unable to accept furniture for distribution to clients

William Temple House is unable to accept furniture and other household items for direct distribution to individuals and families in need.

The William Temple House Thrift Store does accept donations of these items for resale. All proceeds from sales support William Temple House’s mental health counseling and social service programs.

If you want donations of furniture to be distributed directly to individuals and families in need, please visit www.211info.org to find an appropriate agency in the Portland metropolitan area.
